About Sue Rossiter

WPA

I make sculptures, ceramic wall art, framed pieces and wall hangings using earthenware and black clays. Each piece is individually made using hand building techniques. The pieces are painted with slips and glazes made from organic muds and earths I collect and prepare locally to create a palette of natural colours. The pieces undergo two firings in an electric kiln.

Further decorative embellishment is then added using textile materials such as leather and fleece, and sewing skills are incorporated using stitching and thread. I enjoy using this combination of materials and varied mark-making techniques.

I am inspired by an interest in industrial heritage, textile industries, and traditional needle crafts such as sewing, embroidery and tapestry. Historical production processes, equipment and machinery also influence my work.

I studied Ceramics at the University of Plymouth College, Petroc graduating in 2012 with a distinction.
