About John Buchanan

WPA

Trained as a geologist, studying Mineralogy and Geology, at the Camborne School of Mines.

In 1961 John studied under Anthony Richards at the Arch Pottery, St Ives and by 1963 was responsible (together with an assistant) for producing 1000 pieces a week.

In 1966 John founded Anchor Pottery in Hayle.

A Founder member of Cornwall Crafts Association, The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, The St Ives Society of Artists, and The Guild of Master Craftsmen.

College lectures on Watercolours, Woodwork and Ceramics.

Art orientated from youth, John imposes the highest standards on his work, feeling our present society has become enveloped in an artificial environment dependant on mass production for our acknowledged high standard of living, which lacks the warm human touch so evident in handmade things.
