About Mike Mason

WPA

I studied sculpture and drawing at Manchester Regional College of Art under William Tocher and Harry Rutherford where I later became Principal Lecturer in sculpture when it was made a university. I also studied in Italy and was Fellow in Sculpture at the British School at Rome. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculpture

I like to travel with my wife Barbara who is a painter and have worked on several projects in Venezuela, Croatia, France and Italy. I get ideas from a wide range of things I see around me, anything from adobe blocks to creatures by a river. I enjoy the ceramic process and coil or slab build my work gradually, occasionally carving out of a lump of clay. All pieces are unglazed and often treated with slips, engobes and sometimes pigments.
My work is fired in an electric kiln at 1200° C
