About Neill Hughes

WPA

For over 10 years I have made pots in my spare time, initially attending evening classes at Plymouth College of Art and Design. I enjoy building large, simple vessels of between 500-600 mm tall using pinch, slab and coil hand building techniques. The pots of Monica Young have been very influential on my work

Scarva Earthstone Crank Material is my preferred clay, mainly because of its gritty texture and resulting structural stability

My work is fired to stoneware temperatures using a top loading propane gas fuelled kiln. I either leave the pots unglazed or apply wood ash based glazes

I occasionally sell in galleries local to Plymouth
