"I have been “playing with mud” off and on for most of my adult life"

I have been “playing with mud” off and on for most of my adult life, but have been lucky enough to focus more seriously on ceramics since taking early retirement four years ago.
Most of my work is fired using the naked raku method. I use Ashraf Hanna clay (Scarva Earthstone Professional PF520 Raku Body) which I find withstands the thermal shock well. I use a 200 mesh sieve to prepare the burnishing slip.

I also enjoy making animal sculptures which I decorate with slip coloured with stains. These are then normally partially glazed and fired to stoneware temperature to make them frost resistant.
