About Sally Tully

WPA

As an Applied Artist I often use many media however ceramics will continue to be a medium which I passionately love. My work in ceramics is mainly thrown and decorated with what I look at as natural effects and glazes. I often pit fire or saggar fire my work using a raku kiln. Plant material such as seaweed and other organic material surround the pots and impart their mineral content on the surface in a natural and uncontrived way. Each firing is like Christmas Day, you never know what wonders you are going to unwrap.
I also Raku fire pots and slip resist, horse hair, feathers and other organics are applied. Again I like the “slightly out of control” aspect and the wonderful surprises you get when the pots are eventually cool enough to touch and examine.
