About Tom Knowles Jackson

WPA

I trace my love of clay back to schooldays in Dorset under the tutelage of Steve Sheridan and the many Leach tradition influences that punctuated those formative years. Ten years in the army and as many in business took me away from clay until in 2010 I returned to the wheel and to potting part time at my home in Gloucestershire.

My work is wheel thrown and slab built and is tempered with influences of simple functional beauty. I love clean shapes, simple objects and utility and remain ever captivated by the transformation of clay where craft and science jostle in infinite possibility. Today I continue upon the inexorable path of discovery as a potter; developing my knowledge and application of various firing processes and creating my own glazes. Although not yet a full-time potter, I am tutoring at the New Brewery Arts Centre in Cirencester and work from my studio at home where I live with my wife, Becky and our four children.
