Neil studied glass and ceramics at Exeter College of Art & Design. He then worked for the Dartington Glass Company: returning to college to do a further year's study in studio pottery. Since 1975 Neil has been making pottery either part or full-time. For a number of years he was based at the Arts centre in Branscombe, he now works from his studio in Exeter. He makes a wide range of domestic stoneware either thrown of hand built. He also makes sculptural decorative pieces and private commissions.

I work in what may be considered a traditional way, using the wheel to create sound functional forms. The utilitarian wares of Spain and Portugal, and the deep and subtle glaze finishes achieved in the Far East form the backbone of my inspirarion. I feel the work has a simplicity that emanates primarily from function and an elegance that is clearily derived from the Orient.

My ceramic Vessels and Jewellery are hand sculpted and bisqued, then glazed in white, fired to stoneware temperature. I hand paint every piece in glazes coloured and mixed by myself and then fire again. The inspiration comes from my up bringing on the Swedish west coast.

I enjoy all apects of pottery and sculpture, making and having fun with clay and glazes. My stoneware 'Daisy Designs' are decorated using wax relief and double dipping my glazes and then high firing in an electric kiln.
