Autumn Gathering with “Bring & Share” Lunch

Sunday 20th October 2019 11:00-16:00
The Kenn Centre, Kennford, Exeter, EX6 7UE

We are filling the gap left by the sad cancellation of Laurel Keeley’s demonstration with an Autumn Gathering. This is a largely informal event planned to give members the chance to meet, chat, share successes and failures and learn from one another, including some of our more experienced potters. Our big hope is that many of our younger and less experienced members will attend and feel able to ask even the simplest of questions in a friendly and supportive environment. We are also happy for some of the “old dogs” to learn some “new tricks”.

The exact schedule for the day is still being planned but will be guided by your feedback and the interests you express when booking. If there is anything you would particularly like to have covered then please let us know.

Current ideas include:

Organised discussions:
Choosing clay & glazes; Kilns and firing; Exhibiting, pricing and selling your work; Social Media – getting started; getting noticed; getting answers; Setting up a local support network

Bring & Buy Sale – bring your unwanted books, materials, tools etc
Getting to know you – bring an example of your work to share with others
Brains Trust – open Q&A session
Help Desks – drop-by advice on particular topics

We have invited Colin from Kilnsmiths to join us and a number of our committee members have volunteered to share their knowledge and experience with us all. We are also inviting some other “specialists” depending upon the topics we hope to cover. The hall has free Wi-Fi so if you bring a laptop/tablet/smartphone and need some help setting up any of the new technology like Social Media accounts we will .do our best to help.

If there is enough interest we also plan to have a Competition; make a work “Inspired by Autumn” and the best entry as voted by those present will win a small prize.

Lunch will be organised on a “Bring & Share” basis. If you have any special dietary requirements it would be wise to make sure you are catered for, but hopefully members will bring a nice mix of savoury and sweet dishes to share around.

In order to keep costs down and encourage as many members as possible to attend, our “experts” are volunteering their time, but we owe it to them to bring enough culinary treats to reward them for their generosity.

The cost of the day is £10 for members and £15 for any guests. We have booked the large hall that we use for the AGM so we do not expect to have to limit numbers.

Please book by downloading and completing the form from the links below and email to Advance payment by BACS or cheque (payable to Westcountry Potters Association) would be appreciated, but payment by cash or cheque on the day would be acceptable if you make a last minute decision to attend.
