Doug Fitch workshop visit & demonstration 2010
Saturday 16th October, 10.30am for 11am start – 4pm
Hollyford Pottery, Stockleigh English, Crediton, Devon EX17 4DE
WPA first visited Hollyford in August 2007, when we were treated to a fascinating overview of the English country pottery that informs Doug’s work, had some scrummy home-made scones courtesy of his son Joe and were privileged to take part in a kiln opening. Since then, Doug has enlarged his workshop and can now accommodate a reasonable-sized group for a practical demonstration.
Doug’s workshop is situated along a farm track, deep in the countryside of beautiful Mid Devon. Here, he make pots on the wheel, from clay sourced in a nearby stream, which are then decorated with slips and subsequently fired in a kiln fuelled with wood.
Doug loves traditional English pottery and his work has evolved, adopting similar processes, materials and forms to those used by the medieval potters.
